1. Safety First: When working with a pH reducer, especially muriatic acid, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection (goggles or face shield), and old clothes that you don’t mind getting damaged. Ensure good ventilation. Keep children and pets away from the area during application.
2. Test Your Water: Reconfirm your current pH reading. Knowing the precise level will help you determine the correct dosage.
3. Calculate the Dose: Refer to the product’s label for dosage instructions based on your pool’s volume and current pH level. It’s always better to start with a smaller dose and retest than to add too much. Over-correcting can lead to new problems, requiring the addition of a pH increaser.
4. Dilute the Reducer (Especially for Muriatic Acid): If using muriatic acid, dilute it before adding it to your pool.
