Muriatic acid is very effective but requires careful handling due to its corrosive nature. Sodium bisulfate is safer to handle but often requires larger quantities.

Raising Your Pool’s pH Levels with a pH Increaser

If your ipal levels are below 7.2-7.4, it’s time to add a pH increaser. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Calculate Dosage: Always read the instructions on your pH increaser product. The label will provide a dosage chart based on your pool’s volume and how much you need to raise the pH. It’s crucial not to overdose, as this can lead to excessively high pH or alkalinity.
2. Prepare the Chemical: For granular pH increaser (soda ash), it’s often best to pre-dissolve it in a bucket of pool water. This helps prevent undissolved granules from settling on the bottom and potentially staining surfaces.
3. Add to the Pool: With the pump running, slowly pour the dissolved solution (or granular product if instructed) into the deep end of the pool or around the perimeter. Avoid dumping it all in one spot.
4. Circulate and Wait: Allow your pump to circulate the water for at least 4-6 hours to thoroughly distribute the chemical.
